Wyatt and Pandora have become good friends lately.

Not only does she not run for the hills when he approaches, she is actually engaging him in play.

This new level of tolerance is amazingly high, extending even to less than graceful hugs.

First Steps, First Words

A few days ago Eric woke me up from a solid nap to let me know that he had just seen Wyatt take his first four intrepid steps from the computer desk to the coffee table. Today I left Wyatt with Liz to go to the doctor and while he was there Liz reports a few more steps! So far everybody and their dog has seen him walk but mommy :)

Also about a month back Wyatt started saying 'da'. So Eric tried to encourage him by responding and gradually it became clear that Wyatt was indeed saying 'dadadada' in reference to his pop. So Wyatt's first word is officially Daddy!

We've also been speculating that Wyatt can say 'dog'. When he sees Pete and Liz's puppies he quite often says something that sounds remarkably like dog. I thought maybe it was just babble but today while Liz was watching him she said not only did he say 'dog' repeatedly, but when one of the pups wasn't paying attention to him he hollared 'DOG' at her to get her attention. So Wy's second word is officially dog!

So far no progress on getting him to say mom. I repeat it to him over and over in the hopes he'll catch on, but he mostly just watches me intently and then replies with 'DAD DAD DAD'. Oh well :)

Wyatt has had some sort of viral infection for the last week. I addition to fever, it has caused pink eye. Even though he hasn't felt very good, he is still trying to be happy. We are going back to the doctor tomorrow since neither of the pink eye medications seem to be working. These are some pics of his eye. It hurts my heart to see him not feeling well. Hopefully the doctor can do something about it tomorrow.

Here I am with Lucy and Wallie. Lucy is the blonde. She and I have a good system worked out where we share snacks and she cleans my fingers. Wallie is a foster dog and he is ENORMOUS. I rode him like a horse the other day but all the grownups were too slow to get pictures.

Here I am with all my puppy posse. Lucy, Abby, and Molly. I'm gonna figure out how to get these doors open soon, too. Then we can all have a rocking time in the crates together splashing around in the water bowls and chewing on blankets.

The weather here in Massachusetts is already starting to cool. In the mornings it can be quite chilly-willy, so we dress in something warm. Wyatt got these outstanding overalls from Granny Kay. They are a tad long but we just roll 'em up and rock on. Plus they help protect our knees which are quite a mess from crawling about like a littte tank.

Today the whole family took a trip to Gloucester, a part of Massachusetts that juts out into the sea. It was Wyatt's first time to see the ocean.

Daddy snapped some pictures of us at the harbor at Five Pound Island. It was real windy.

There was a big storm following us all the way to the coast and it finally met us at the ocean. It was quite chilly and windy for the third official day of summer, but we got some ice cream anyway and it was delicious.
